Windows Update
April 3, 2008We have finally got some sense from the company that supply the seitz S6 window, and they said that we can have the new style tinted windows, there is one slight problem, all their sizes have changed!
The two side windows in the Mercedes van, behind the driver and passengers door will be slightly larger than anticipated (compared to the old V-trek van) at 1000mm x 600mm but this size is not too far out, as the window in the Mercedes door is 600mm at the widest point. The other problem that we have had to overcome is the rear window which fits in the composite back panel the smallest size in the tinted window range is 800 x 400mm and we only have room for 700 x 300mm, we have decided that because of the height of this window being near the roof line, and the fly net can always be pulled down to act as a net curtain for privacy, we are going to stick with the standard window without tinting in the rear panel, and hopefully the seitz S6 size range will get larger in the near future.
Hi, I have been trawling the internet for the last week researching replacement van windows and had come to the same situation as yourselves. We are renovating an old fibreglass Canadian caravan which we think is the only type in the uk. We wanted windows that were different to the traditional look of 99% of the uk caravan market but were struggling to find anything. Then I heard from an RV renovator that Seitz were releasing an S6 model but that it was only available to manufacturers. From what I’ve read in your blog, you seem to have got around the problem. Could you please give us the details of your contacts and maybe some prices so that we can try the same path?
Any help will be really appreciated.
Richard.
Unfortunately I am not going to be much help to you. Because we are classed as a manufacturer, that is the only reason that we have got hold of these windows, it has taken us over a year! What is really concerning is that what happens when we need more? Are we going to have to wait another year? If it is any help five years ago we did have standard windows in one of our vans tinted done by a proffessional tinter, and we did not have any problems with it at all, dispite all the “no don’t do it” I must just say that the van was stored inside which may have been a help to the windows being OK.
Have just been reading that you fitted a Seitz S6 window. Did it come with any instructions that you’ve still got?! I’ve been trying to get hold of some instructions to be able to replace the frame to window seal, but am not having much luck! We can’t seem to get the window away from the caravan (despite taking out the inside part) and are wondering if we’re missing some hidden screws somewhere?! Any advice would be gratefully received! Thanks
You may find that the frame has been glued and screwed in place. Maybe you should contact your caravan supplier and ask the same question, as everyone will have a different way of fixing the windows.
